Bus Terminal
Ørje, Norway
Public
A bus terminal in a small Østfold town, where the ordinary brief of shelter, waiting and passage takes on a second role: the building handles the site’s rainwater in the open, and makes that handling part of the experience of the place.
2023
At the centre of the plan, a compact rainbed courtyard collects the water from the roofs above, so that anyone waiting for a bus can watch an ordinary Norwegian rain arrive, gather and drain. The roof forms, in black-oiled timber, sit within the regional vernacular; the same profiles could be redrawn for Sweden or Denmark without losing the logic underneath.
