Transformation - Bank

Civic buildings of the 1980s rarely get a second look; across Scandinavia they are renovated beyond recognition or demolished. Eidsberg Sparebank starts from a different judgement. The bank at the heart of Mysen is structured, rhythmic and clad in warm masonry, typical of a generation of buildings with good bones and a clear material language that still anchor small town centres across the region.

The new work extends the original at slightly different proportions. Reclaimed brick, close in tone but slightly lighter, marks the additions, and weather will draw old and new closer over time. Slender facade profiles echo the original rhythm with contemporary precision. A prototype as much as a renovation: a demonstration of what considered intervention can do for an entire generation of small-town civic anchors.
