Linnekleppen has been a local landmark, hiking destination and fire watch since 1908. The first tower was braced timber, cut from the forest around it; the concrete tower of 1936 brought the red stairs that became the site’s signature, but broke the link between what the tower was made of, what it did, and where it stood. After ninety years the concrete had reached the end of its life and came down.
