Storesand Cabins

Storesand, Norway

Houses

Most multi-cabin developments reshape their landscape to suit the project. Storesand reverses the relationship. Six identical cabins stand over the forest floor on thin steel posts, their foundations tied to outcrops of bare bedrock, and the ground runs unbroken beneath them.

Each cabin negotiates privacy and openness through geometry alone. The main volumes, holding bedrooms and service spaces, lie along the contours, keeping calm between neighbours; the living rooms break out of line, turning their open ends to the fjord. The character of the whole comes from precise decisions about orientation, geometry and where occupation stops.
