Villa Stabekk
Stabekk, Norway
Transformation
An interior renovation of an old villa in Stabekk, just outside Oslo, built on a simple conviction: the house already had qualities worth keeping. The work is an exercise in removal. Walls, detailing and the accumulated additions of successive occupations are stripped back before anything new is built in.
2023
Using the window line as a datum, a single continuous element folds along the living room, becoming bench, seating, storage and fireplace in turn. Custom oak windows and oak cladding carry the language through the room, and a new brick fireplace anchors it; the bathroom follows with penny tiles and oak from the same palette. The space is more open, the view is better, and the bones of the house read more clearly than before.
